Mt Cook
An introduction

Located just inside the Mt Cook National Park, the Mt. Cook Village is the nearest accommodation to New Zealand’s highest mountain – Mt Cook. Road access is via SH 80, which runs alongside Lake Pukaki. The Mt Cook Village is 60 kilometres/ 38 miles from the turn off from SH 8.
Local walks and treks ranging from short and easy 45 minutes through to half and full days, heli-skiing, scenic flights – both fixed wing and helicopter, rock climbing and mountaineering are just some of the more popular activities in the area.

The 60 room, 6 story Aoraki Wing, is the newest addition to the Hermitage Hotel. Offering exceptional views of Aoraki Mt Cook, these rooms have two queen beds, bath and shower, air conditioning, floor to ceiling windows, five Sky television channels, bathrobes, binoculars and in-room safes.
All rooms in the Mount Cook Complex, have tea & coffee making facilities, International direct dial telephones, refrigerator, private bathrooms and toiletries, colour televisions.
The Hermitage Hotel complex offers the award winning Panorama Restaurant, (Open from 6pm during the summer months - October to April), Alpine Restaurant, Snowline Bar, Coffe Shop, Souvenir shop and outfitters.

The Mount Cook Wing has 66 double and twin rooms with views of Aoraki Mount Cook.
The twin rooms have 2 x 3/4 beds (bigger than a single and slightly smaller than a double). The double rooms have one queen bed. All rooms have private bathrooms (not all have a full size bath), balconies, binoculars and 5 Sky television channels.
All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, International Direct Dial telephones, refrigerator, private bathrooms and toiletries and colour televisions. The rate includes a buffet dinner and cooked breakfast in the Alpine Restaurant.

STANDARD

Motel Studios and Family Units
Mt Cook Village

The motels are located approximately 800 metres from The Hermitage and only a short stroll from Glencoe Lodge.
The 17 x Studio (one room) Units have one queen bed, full kitchen and bathroom facilities (shower only), telephones, TV's, SKY television and outside patio area.
The 15 x two roomed Motel Family Units (pictured) provide a great level of comfort and are ideal for families. These units have one queen bed and a double fold out sofa bed in the lounge plus a separate bedroom with either one queen or 2 singles beds. The two bedroom units have full kitchen facilities. All units (Studio and two bedrooms) have bathroom facilities (shower only), telephones, Sky television, under cover parking & outside patio area.

The rates include a continental breakfast in the Hermitage Coffee Shop and a $10 Food and Beverage voucher per person (over the age of 6) to spend in any of The Hermitage food and beverage outlets.

Mount Cook Chalets
Mt Cook Village

Located close to the Hermitage Hotel, the 19 Mount Cook Chalets offer accommodation for the budget conscious traveller and are ideal for small groups or families travelling together.
Each chalet can comfortably house up to six people; one double bed in the lounge area, plus 2 partitioned rooms each with two single beds (total 4 singles). All chalets have bathrooms, telephones, basic kitchen facilities, SKY Television and car parking at the door.
The price includes Continental Breakfast in the Hermitage Coffee Shop and a $10 food and beverage voucher per person (over the age of 6), to spend in any of the Hermitage food and beverage outlets.
The room rate is based on 4 adults only. Extra person rate applies if more than 4 people.

Lake Tekapo

Lake Tekapo is located on SH 8, 47 kilometres/30 miles north of the Mt Cook turn-off, or 106 kilometres/66 miles from the Mt Cook Village.

STANDARD

The Godley Resort

The 80 room Godley Resort is situated on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Twenty rooms have Lake Views with 47 standard and 12 budget studios. Rooms have private bathrooms with bath and/or shower, tea and coffee making facilities, phone and TV and in house video, radio and electric blankets.
The property offers the Garden Courtyard Restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner all served daily; lounge and house bar; swimming pool and guest laundry facilities. Mt Cook Village is just over an hour’s drive.

Twizel

The township of Twizel is located on SH 8, 10 kilometres/6 miles South of the turnoff to Mt Cook. It lies 69 kilometers/ 40 miles to the South East of the Mt Cook Village. Twizel was originally a construction town for the Upper Waitaki Hydroelectric Power Development Scheme. Whilst the population has shrunk from it’s construction heyday, it is becoming increasingly popular as a domestic vacation center.

The artificial lakes created nearby now offer good picnicking, camping boating and fishing.

Mackenzie Country Inn

The 108 room McKenzie Country Inn is located within a short strolling distance of the Twizel Township and local amenities. There are two categories of rooms – deluxe and standard.
Deluxe rooms (image shown) have two double beds, plush furnishings and leather chairs. Rooms are larger than normal and have Double or King beds, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator, electric blankets, hairdryers, Sky TV, phone and work desk with private bathroom facilities. Many rooms have mountain views.
The property offers an on site licensed restaurant and bar with natural timber and stone used extensively with open fireplaces, plenty of guest parking, laundry facilities and luggage storage. The Mt Cook Village is under a 40-minute drive away.

Omarama

Omarama is on SH 8, 39 kilometers/24 miles South East of the Mt Cook turnoff. Omarama is 98 kilometers/60 miles from the Mt Cook Village. Omarama lies at the junction of two main State Highways. SH 8 which leads Northward to Mt Cook and to the South lies the Lindis Pass leading to the Central Otago and ultimately Wanaka & Queenstown. The other – SH 83 leads through the Waitaki Valley to the East Coast and Oamaru.
Omarama is gaining international renown as a gliding center and is also used as a base for fishing or skiing in winter.
